That tight spot you can't quite reach? We've got a tool for that.

Some muscles just stay tight no matter how much you stretch or foam roll. Over time, overuse and old injuries can leave tissue feeling stiff, restricted, and cranky. Muscle scraping is one of our go-to ways to get things moving again.

What is muscle scraping?

Muscle scraping, also called Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), uses a smooth-edged tool glided along the skin to work on the muscles and fascia underneath. It helps find and treat areas of restriction, improve how the tissue moves, and boost blood flow to the area.

You may have heard of Graston or Gua Sha. Same idea, with a modern upgrade.

The upgrade: heat + vibration

At Anchor Chiro, we use a scraping tool that heats up and vibrates while we work. Why does that matter?

  • Heat helps tissue relax and feels great on tight, achy muscles.
  • Vibration helps the treatment feel more comfortable, so we can do effective work without it being too intense.

The result is a treatment that's effective and a lot more comfortable than old-school scraping.

What can it help with?

Muscle scraping is commonly used for:

  • Neck, shoulder, and upper back tightness
  • Low back and hip tension
  • Tight hamstrings, calves, quads, and IT bands
  • Tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, and forearm tightness
  • Plantar fasciitis and shin splints
  • Scar tissue and post-injury stiffness
  • Workout and sports recovery

Not sure if it's right for you? We'll assess you at your visit and give you an honest recommendation.

Why muscle scraping at Anchor Chiro is different

Soft tissue care is the heart of what we do. Dr. Kate is ART-certified and often combines muscle scraping with Active Release Technique, shockwave therapy, adjustments, and movement work to address the whole picture, not just the tight spot. Every visit is tailored to how you're feeling that day.

What to expect

  • It's quick. Scraping is usually a few minutes per area and fits right into your visit.
  • Some redness is normal. The skin may look a little pink or red afterward. That's just increased blood flow and it fades quickly.
  • Mild soreness can happen. You might feel a bit like you had a good workout for a day or so.
  • Keep moving. Movement helps your body heal, so we'll often give you simple exercises to do between visits.
