A different way to release muscle tension
Most soft tissue techniques work by pressing into the muscle. Cupping does the opposite. It uses gentle suction to lift the skin and underlying tissue, creating space and helping tight, overworked areas loosen up.
What is cupping therapy?
During cupping, small cups are placed on the skin and suction is created to draw the tissue upward. Cups may stay in one place or be moved along the muscle while you relax or move through gentle motions. Cupping can help increase blood flow to the area, reduce muscle tension, and improve how the tissue moves.
What can it help with?
Cupping is commonly used for:
- Neck, shoulder, and upper back tension
- Low back and hip tightness
- Sore muscles after workouts or competition
- Tight hamstrings, calves, and quads
- General muscle stiffness and recovery
How it fits with your care at Anchor
Cupping is one of several soft tissue tools Dr. Kate may use during your visit, often alongside Active Release Technique, muscle scraping, and chiropractic adjustments. Every visit is tailored to how you are feeling that day.
What to expect
- It feels like a deep pull. Most people find the sensation relaxing.
- Circular marks are normal. Cupping can leave temporary marks on the skin that usually fade within a few days to a week. They are not bruises from injury.
- No downtime. You can return to your normal day right away.
